Biography: William was born to James and Sally Womack on a night typical of the bitter Madison, Wisconson winters. From an early age, his parents started to call him Lee as a nickname, but there was no real reason as to why. It's stuck since he was two years old, so he's always gone by just "Lee". Madison would only be his home for the first five years of his life before the family moved to Santa Fe after his mother accepted a teaching job at the College of Santa Fe. His father worked as an engineer and would be gone for parts of the summer out in southern California earning his pay at oil sites, fault lines and where ever else his contracts would take him. When he was out of school during those summer months, Lee and his mother would drive out to pay his dad a visit. It was a normal childhood wit ha normal life. He did well in school, played on the baseball team, played guitar and piano in a few short lived bands and graduated with honors. He took some classes at a local junior college to try and find out exactly what he would do with his life when everything changed.
During one weekend trip in the summer of 1998, the family were enjoying a dinner in a restaurant on the outskirts of Hollywood. It was a one in a million shot and the kind of story that people always read and hear about, but Lee got to experience it first hand. A casting director saw his youthful and striking featurings mixed with a touch of innocence and spoke to him about appearing in a movie. Of course thinking it was a joke at first, Lee went along with it until he met with a director, a producer and all in a real film set. If it was a joke, it was a damn good one. When Lee accepted the offer to be in a movie, he had no idea what the next ten years would bring.
Almost Famous would prove to be his start. Although a few years older than the character called far, his spark of innocence, naivaty and eager nature made a perfect fit for the role of a young journalist hired by Rolling Stone magazine to travel with the fictional bad Stillwater. The film put his unknown name out on the map and other producers and directors started to take notice of the young upstart. A memorable guest starring role in Six Feet Under came next, along with a small role in the ensemble piece Mystic River. What came as a surprise to most, Lee esspecially, was his casting in the science-fiction cult favorite Firefly. While it lasted less than a season, the show made its mark and left Lee with a permanant place at Cons and fan events. Not wanting to be pidgeoned holed, Lee chose his next few roles very carefully so as to not be labeled as just a genre actor. This brought about some interesting surprises, including a few high profile nominations.
The biggest surprise of all came with the arrival of the film Once, a small independent film with showcased Lee's talents as a singer/songwriter, something he had kept only to a select few who were close to him. The film and the music won great acclaim, including an Oscar for best song. Music thus far seems to be something of a side hobby for Lee as he continues to focus on his movie career, however there are rumours of a debut album in the works.
In his private life, he is known for being a quiet and soft spoken but deeply caring man. A supporter of various charities, he's a spokesperson and advocate for child abuse due to his work on Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone. His biggest vices in life include arliment ciggarettes, bushmills whiskey and as he's claimed, smoldering eyes. He divides his time between New York and Los Angeles and a 1,000 acre ranch outside of Hamilton, Montana.
