Aidan Harris (born December 23, 1979) is an American actor best known for his roles as Hoban "Wash" Washburne in the TV series Firefly, and for the films Collateral, Watchmen and Once, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

    William Womack was born in Madison, Wisconson, the only son of James and and Sally Womack. Lee's arrival was considered a blessing after his parents had already suffered two micarriages. After his mother accidentally called him by his middle name, Lee stuck. He's been called it ever since.

    His father worked as an engineer, which caused the family to move frequently. After Madison, they relocated to Denver, Kansas City and Santa Fe. Eventually his father would move to Southern California while Lee and his mother would stay in Santa Fe, his parents remaining married. As Lee put it, his adolescent years were "normal." He played soccer and baseball in high school and learned to play guitar and piano when he was 13. He didn't attend college right after his graduated from High School, choosing to work odd jobs and live with his mother to save up money.

    During a vacation to visit his father when he was 19, fate intervined after he was spotted by a casting agent working for the new film by Cameron Crowe, Almost Famous. His youthful apperance and laid back attitude was the perfect element needed for the autobiographical film. It received positive reviews, mainy singling out Lee's performance. Despite his lack of formal training, more roles were offered.

    Memorable guest starring roles in Six Feet Under, and ER solidified his status as a star on the rise. His break-through role came in the short lived but critically-acclaimed and beloved series Firefly as the wise-cracking but always reliable ship's pilot Hoban "Wash" Washburne. The show was sadly cancelled after only eleven of the fourteen produced episodes were aired.

    For his highly acclaimed turn in Collateral, he was nominated for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and several other nominations for Best Supporting Actor. Lee also starred with all of the orignal cast members Firefly's film adaptation Serenity. His performance in The Assassination of Jesse James by The Coward Robert Ford earned him further acclaim as well as a second Academy Award nomination.

    [edit] Recent and Future Roles

    In 2007, Lee surprised most everyone when he starred and provided the music for the independent movie Once. Made for a budget of $150,000, it earned $20 million globally as well as an Academy Award for Best Original Song, with the winning song Falling Slowly peaking at #27 on the Billboard 200, #2 on the Soundtracks chart and #4 on the Independent Charts. He returned to his science fiction roots in the ensemble film Sunshine, as well as lead the cast in the Dennis Lehane novel adaptation of Gone Baby Gone in 2008. In 2009, Lee appeared in the highly anticipated film Watchmen, adapted from thegraphic novel of the same name. Fall will see him star in the psychological thriller Shutter Island and the action reboot of Sherlock Holmes.

    With the success of Once, Lee is following up with a solo album. Although a release date has yet to be confirmed.
